Apertura: "Opening" in Italian, evoking both physical/keyhole imagery and emotional awakening.
A mixed-media sculpt-on-canvas merging rough-hewn cave textures with a radiant "keyhole" portal. The outer frame evokes jagged stone—cold and heavy, crafted from air-dry clay with acrylic paint finished. At its center, a smooth keyhole aperture reveals an ethereal dreamy pastels sky and seascape: the beige and blush-pink dawn clouds, soft lilac twilight, and calm turquoise waves. Light passes through the portal, casting ocean-like ripples onto viewers, inviting them to lean closer and "unlock" the scene.
My Vision Brought to Life..
The Cave of the Mind
We all create caves within ourselves—spaces where stress, anxiety, and depression resonate like shadows. Trapped by invisible walls, we wrestle alone in the dark, often forgetting that light exists beyond the stone. The rugged exterior of this sculpture represents that struggle: a mind toughened by silent battles.

The Keyhole of Hope
Deep within, we seek for a glimpse of peace. Here, imagine a keyhole cutting through the darkness. Through it, a serene paradise unfolds: a beach where pastel skies transition into gentle seas.
The color choice of peace to me is what you’ll see from the “keyhole”, from beige to rose-pink to lavender and to tranquil blue. These hues, soft as a breath, warm as solace, symbolizing “my kind of peace” that I crave but often beyond words.
The portal invites us to reflect: What does your perfect paradise look like?
Faith as the Key
Mental illness often feels invisible, like a shadow that follows many of us. "Apertura" seeks to bring that struggle into the light. The cave’s weight is real, but the glimmer of hope from the keyhole is even more profound.
This is a heartfelt message:
-
Your pain is valid, and you are not alone in this journey.
-
Your hope is valuable, and your faith in healing and better days ahead is strong.
-
Your own resilience holds the power to guide you. Remember, this key is yours, and no one can take it away.

Why this Story Matters?
I shaped this from my own struggles. Years lost in the cave taught me that we are never broken beyond repair. We are warriors fighting silent battles. When our minds deceive us into believing we are alone, art whispers back: You are seen. Hold on. Your paradise awaits.
We seek art that dares to say: Mental health is not a footnote to humanity—it is the text. "Apertura" is an invitation to share stories written in scars and starlight. Where is your keyhole? What light waits beyond?
This art piece is a “Call to Faith”: "Faith is the key" is the rallying cry, visualized through the literal aperture of a keyhole.
